Pick Your Team Breaks Explained

In a PYT break buyers choose their team — and when two want the same one, a fair pick order settles it. Here's how PYT works and how to randomize the order.

PYT & pick order

Pick Your Team (PYT) is one of the most popular break formats because buyers get to choose the team they want. The fairness question isn't which team you get — it's who picks first. That's where a random pick order comes in.

How a pick-your-team break works

The breaker prices teams individually (stars cost more, rebuilding teams cost less). Buyers claim the teams they want. When several buyers want the same team, or you're running a full PYT draft, you need a random pick order to decide who chooses first, second, and so on.

Setting a fair pick order

1

Collect your buyers

List everyone in the draft. Multi-spot buyers get one entry per pick they own.

2

Run a live race

Open the race tool, drop in the names, and start. First across the line picks first.

3

Draft teams in finish order

Go down the finish order letting each buyer claim an available team.

4

Share the proof

Post the replay link so the pick order is verifiable and drama-free.

Why pick order is the whole game in PYT

In PYT, the pick order decides who lands the marquee teams. If buyers doubt how the order was set, you've got a problem. A live race that's provably fair removes the doubt — everyone watches it happen and can replay it later.

Random teams answer "what do I get." Pick order answers "who chooses first." PYT lives or dies on the second one being fair.

FAQ

What does PYT mean in card breaks?

Pick Your Team — buyers choose their team rather than being randomly assigned one, with a random pick order deciding who picks first.

How do I randomize the pick order?

Run a live race with your buyer names; the finish order is the pick order. See how to randomize for a break.

Is PYT the same as a divvy break?

They're cousins — both use a random draft order, but divvy drafts pre-set groups while PYT drafts individual teams.
